Since his arrival in January, Alexis Sanchez has often cut a frustrated figure.
The superstar Chilean has shown glimpses of his immense capabilities, but more often than not, we’ve had to watch some abysmal displays from the ex-Arsenal man. Now, we possibly know why…
According to the excellent Paul Hirst in The Times, Sanchez is unhappy at Old Trafford. Apparently, he has failed to settle into life up North, and already wants to leave United.
It’s fair to say that it hasn’t been an easy twelve months for the attacker, although Jose Mourinho did show real faith in him by refusing to bench the 30-year-old; even when he wasn’t playing well.
Personally, I’d like to see him reciprocate that favour by trying to keep working hard and put in the displays in which we know he is capable of. Over the last couple of games we’ve seen glimpses of his talents as he has been allowed to play as the main striker through the middle. That has undoubtedly helped him, but we still haven’t seen anything close to his best.
Situations like these are finely balanced. If he stays, great, he’s still a super footballer. If he leaves, that means more minutes for the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. This one really is a win-win for United, whatever the outcome.
