Manchester United have already added one new acquisition to the defensive line, with the Red Devils sealing a deal for Victor Lindelof. However, one man that they won’t be signing this summer is Fulham’s left-back, Ryan Sessegnon.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the teenage prodigy has put pen to paper on a new contract, ending Manchester United’s hopes of signing the Englishman – at least in the short term.
Sessegnon is just seventeen and had a brilliant campaign at Craven Cottage last season. The fact that he has attracted interest from the likes of United, Liverpool and Spurs tells you all you need to know about him – and Fulham will be delighted to have him tied down to a new deal.
I think that the left-back spot at Old Trafford is definitely a jersey up for grabs. Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and finally Ashley Young all got the chance to try and stake their claim last season, but I think that none of them really made it their own – hence why United have shown an interest in bringing Sessegnon in.
For now, though, I’d much prefer to see us go out and get a proven and experienced player, rather than bringing in a talent who’ll need to be nurtured and developed.
