Manchester United took command of Champions League group B last night, as the side overcame a resilient CSKA Moscow team late on, with Wayne Rooney scoring the only goal of the game. That was United’s first goal in four outings, but the club are yet to concede in over 400 minutes of competitive football.
In fact, it has been 415 minutes since United have let in a goal in all competitions this season and thats something that Louis van Gaal deserves an awful lot of credit for. Whats even more impressive is the stat that only three goals have been conceded at Old Trafford in the ten games played there this season.
When you put it into perspective, before the start of the season many fans were unhappy that the Iron Tulip didn’t break the bank for a world class centre-half, but Chris Smalling has been ever-present all season, and with Daley Blind and Phil Jones backing him up, our back line has looked extremely secure.
