Louis van Gaal explains why he dropped Fellaini against City

Manchester United secured a massive win in the derby yesterday, with the fans thinking one of the key reasons behind it was Fellaini being dropped from the starting line-up. After the game Louis van Gaal revealed why he left the former Everton man out of the team.

“I was very happy especially because I had to rotate. Fellaini could not play the fourth game in a row.” Van Gaal said.

Whether this is just Louis van Gaal being diplomatic, or whether he has genuine plans to recall him after the international break remains to be seen, but at the end of the day, United are by far a better side without him.

Yes, Fellaini certainly offers something when chasing a game late on, but there is a reason 95% of the fanbase let out a sigh when the teams are announced and the big Belgian is named in the starting line-up.
