Manchester United’s Juan Mata found himself sent off for the first time in the Premier League this afternoon, due to two bookable offences in the space of two minutes. After the game, the Manchester United boss somehow tried to defend the Spaniard based on the fact that ‘he has never hurt a person’…
“I think the ref has to know the player. Juan Mata has never hurt a person. You have to know character of the players.” Van Gaal said.
Louis van Gaal has certainly made some odd statements during his time at Old Trafford, but honestly this is one of the most unintelligent things I’ve ever heard.
We all know Juan Mata has a likeable character, but that has absolutely nothing to do with how silly both of his yellow cards were, and for Louis van Gaal to say otherwise is just daft.
At the end of the day he simply had to be sent off for making two rather odd decisions in the heat of the moment, and to try and defend him based on his character is just bizarre.
