Louis van Gaal makes bizarre statement after Champions League exit

Manchester United were dumped out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion last night. There were times when we were progressing due to the result in the other fixture involving PSV and CSKA Moscow, but in the end, the club lost out due to a series of poor displays overall.

After the game, Louis van Gaal has defended the progress his side has made, by stating that United went further in the Capital One Cup, as well as qualifying for the Champions League…

“When you see the facts, we went further in the Capital One Cup (than last season) & qualified for the CL group stage.” Louis van Gaal said.

Honestly, this is borderline delusional. Manchester United shouldn’t be seeing qualification through to the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup, and making it to the group stage of the Champions League as progress.

It feels as though Louis van Gaal has splashed a lot of cash this summer, without any real progress in the style of play. Of course he’ll say that we’re still in the running for the Premier League title, but if we continue with this form then that won’t be the case come the turn of the year…
