Manchester United spent big to land Memphis Depay over the summer, with Louis van Gaal sanctioning £25million to bring in his Dutch compatriot. Despite starting the season well, his form quickly took a huge dip and he hasn’t looked the same since.
Now, the Manchester Evening News claim that he has been dropped from the Manchester United squad for their FA Cup final against Crystal Palace tomorrow.
The left-winger can’t really have any complaints about being left out, either. He simply put, hasn’t been anywhere near good enough and has gone nowhere close to justifying the huge price-tag.
However he is still extremely young having only just turned 22, so you’d expect Manchester United to persist with Depay for at least one more season before deciding to sell him.
His outstanding final season for PSV should be enough to convince the Old Trafford board to stick with their man, but if the right offer comes in, Edward Woodward and company could well be tempted.
