Louis van Gaal says why he won’t be playing Martial as a striker anytime soon

Manchester United’s brightest spark of the season so far has been Anthony Martial, the 20-year old Frenchman who cost the club a huge £38million at the start of the season. More often than not, Martial has been used on the wing, despite being bought predominantly as a striker.

Louis van Gaal was asked about this in a recent press conference, and he said that he won’t be changing his position on the field anytime soon.

“Martial likes to start in the striker’s position but when he plays like this I am not going to change it.” Louis van Gaal said.

You can understand exactly why, too. His pace is a real asset on the wing, as his ability to drift past his man almost at ease. His willingness to run up and down the channel all game must be pleasing Louis van Gaal, and more than that, he gets in the box at every possible opportunity.

Eventually you can see him converting into an out and out striker who can lead the line single-handedly, but at this moment in time, the wing is definitely his best position.
