Manchester United’s defensive frailties came to the fore once again this weekend, as the lads narrowly lost out at home to a resilient Southampton side who managed to secure a 1-0 win. Louis van Gaal got it tactically wrong this weekend, but the defence was an absolute shambles for the goal.
According to The Guardian, Louis van Gaal hasn’t given up hope on adding Mats Hummels to the squad this January, and he’d be certain to sure up that currently shaky defence.
The 26-year old is the senior figure that United so desperately need at the back. He controls the defence so well, and his presence alone would do wonders for the younger lads who’d immediately calm down with that experience alongside them. Just look at how well the likes of Jones and Smalling performed when partnered with Nemanja Vidic.
There are no better centre-backs in world football than Mats Hummels at the moment for me, and he shown just how capable he is at the highest level by putting in outstanding performances during the World Cup last year.
He’d cost a bomb though, and with his torrid injury problems of late it could potentially be a huge gamble. For me, its one we simply have to take.
