Louis van Gaal has indirectly claimed that midfielder Anderson needs to get himself fit if he wants to remain at Manchester United. He goes on to say that he hasn’t had the chance to judge the Brazilian due to injuries, but at the moment he is coming back to fitness and he’ll have to get up to speed quickly.
When quizzed about Anderson’s fitness, Louis van Gaal said:
‘He’s now coming back. He was injured but he’s training now with the team. I cannot say what had happened last year but in my four months here, he’s had a lot of injuries.
‘So I cannot judge him but when he trains he trains at a good level. He’s not always fit and that is more his problem now.
‘I can’t pick him now because you have to be fit. For the first three months the culture of a trainer is fitness. That is the smallest thing you can demand. Professional league fitness. Fitness is the most important thing. First you have to show your fitness. Not for just one day but for several weeks.’
To me this sounds like a direct message to Anderson in an attempt to push him to work even harder and get himself fit. With the midfield performing really well of late, the Brazilian will have to do an awful lot of work if he wants to make Louis van Gaal’s match day squads.
