In perhaps what sounds like one of the most bizarre transfer rumours yet, Manchester United are interested in tempting Arjen Robben from Bayern Munich. The Sun claim that Van Gaal wants to bid £25m for the 30-year old winger, who could be tempted to leave Bayern Munich.
It is believed that Bayern Munich want to offload the winger, who single-handedly demolished us in the Champions League quarter-final last month. Currently tied down to a £125,000 a week contract until 2017, the player himself could prefer a move to England if United offer him £200,00 a week plus.
Van Gaal did in fact bring Robben to Munich back in 2009 when he was boss in Bavaria, managing to prise him away from Real Madrid for just over £20m. Their relationship goes back more than ten years, after they worked together in Holland’s youth setup.
Personally I cannot see this being true. It sounds like an inevitable paper story because both player and manager have a professional history. Yes, we need new wingers but I simply cannot see why Robben would like to leave Bayern Munich. At the end of the day they still walked the Bundesliga and they have a cup final to look forward to.
