Manchester United Football Club have been on a pretty poor run of form recently, particularly in the bread and butter of the Premier League. It looked as though we were heading for our first defeat since September in that competition last night, but Ibrahimovic scored a late penalty.
The spot-kick was awarded thanks to Luke Shaw, who took a shot with his right foot that was destined for the net before Ashley Williams’ hand intervened. Credit has to go to the young left-back, particularly after Jose Mourinho absolutely slated him in the media.
Now Luke Shaw has responded, and do you know what? Fair play to the lad. He hasn’t come out and attacked the manager, in fact, he’s come out and backed the self-proclaimed Special One.
Shaw also reiterated his desire to continue playing for this great football club, whilst confessing his love for Manchester United. This is exactly what Jose Mourinho wants to hear, and now it’s solely up to Shaw to get his head down and keep working hard.
“Like Jose said, he wants to see me fighting, and I’ll fight to the last second because I want to be here for the club,” said Shaw, as per the Daily Mirror.
“I want to play for the manager and I want to help this team get back to the top.”
“I’m loving it here at United, the fans are incredible and have been incredible the last couple of days, for obviously what’s been going on.”
“But I’m keeping my head up and I’m going to fight to the last. I’m not going to give up.”
“I love this club and I’ll give everything to be here. I’m working really hard at the moment — now more than ever.”
“I’m going through a phase where everything sort of is going against me, but I want this so badly, I want to prove everyone wrong.”
“Obviously with the stuff that’s been going on it’s hard for me to take because, deep down, that’s not me as a person.”
Honestly, these quotes will do him plenty of favours. Us Manchester United fans have fallen for this hook, line and sinker, but the proof is in the pudding, and he needs to start performing in the Premier League.
I just hope Mourinho gives him a start in the not too distant future, allowing him to really show what he can do. In my opinion, Shaw is by far and away the most talented full-back we have on our books, but it’s solely on the shoulders of the player to go out there and prove it.
Tuesday night against Everton was a good start. He came on after an injury to Ashley Young, and he really gave the Toffees’ wing-back plenty of problems. Alright, his final ball was lacking at times, but that’ll come as he plays more games.
