Luke Shaw clearly outlines his plans at Manchester United this season, ready to prove Mourinho wrong

Manchester United Football Club are certainly headed in the right direction under Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils finished second last term – their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.

One problem area for the Old Trafford club has been left-back. Ashley Young did a decent job in that area of the field last season, and followed that up with an excellent World Cup.

However, at 33, Young simply cannot be the long-term solution. Step forward, Luke Shaw. For whatever reason, the Englishman hasn’t been fancied whatsoever by the self-proclaimed Special One. This latest interview with the 23-year-old is a massive statement of intent, though.

“There are opportunities for all the players, not just me. I look at it like that. The next five games are about fitness. I want to prove to the manager that I can be in his team. When everyone comes back, I still want to be the first name on the teamsheet. It’s time for me to show him I can be in the team.” Shaw told reporters, including ManUtd.com.

Shaw is obviously planning on proving Mourinho wrong, and I wouldn’t bet against it.  He’s an immensely talented left-back who has been rather unfortunate where injuries are concerned. If he can get a full pre-season under his belt, where opportunity will be plentiful, this could be his time.

Mourinho will be working alongside Shaw for the next month solid. It’s down to the former Southampton man to play well whenever called upon, and if he can win the manager’s trust, don’t bet against him starting against Leicester City on the opening day.
