After around a five-month injury lay-off, Luke Shaw made his return to the Manchester United team against Burton Albion on Wednesday night. The talented Englishman came on at half-time, and completed the second 45 minutes whilst putting in a solid performance.
Injuries have seriously hampered his development pretty much ever since he moved to the Theatre of Dreams, but he’s still just twenty-two years of age and the world is quite literally at his feet.
For a man who hasn’t played since the back end of last season, I thought he acquitted himself brilliantly. Alright, it was against a Championship side but maybe Jose Mourinho always planned to introduce him back into proceedings against Burton for that exact reason.
The former Southampton man then took to Instagram to express his delight at returning, and you can genuinely see that all this lad wants to do is go out there and play the game he loves.
I really do pray that the injuries are now behind him. Football, particularly at this level is such a cutthroat industry and Mourinho won’t tolerate nursing him for much longer.
He’s by far the most talented left-back on our books, and I think that now, this really is his final chance to cement his place within the Manchester United starting XI.
