Manchester United have had a mixed week. After the highs of beating Paris Saint-Germain, the defeat to Arsenal, in such acrimonious circumstances, certainly hurts.
That’s football, though, and eventually, injuries caught up with us. The squad has just been playing too many high-pressure games in a short space of time and the mental and physical toll that takes has been evident.
It does look as though we’re about to get a timely boost, however. Juan Mata offered a positive injury update on his blog earlier today, as he hopes he can rejoin his mates soon – which would be a great piece of news.
“Today I am writing this from home in Manchester. It is has been another different week, without being able to play, but there are reasons to be optimistic.” Juan Mata wrote in his weekly blog. “On Friday I was able to put in some work out on a pitch again, and my recovery is progressing as hoped.
Hopefully,I can rejoin the team soon.”
Mata, 30, has a unique skillset. Not one player in the squad has the vision or natural ability that he has, and to have that available is a key asset.
Whether he’s starting matches or affecting them from off the substitutes bench it doesn’t matter. It goes without saying that we’d rather have him fit and available than not, and to hear that he’s on his way back is great.
United’s next game takes place on Saturday away at Wolverhampton Wanderers. They’re in great form and it’s not going to be easy to overturn them on their own turf – but if we need a late winner, Mata could come on and certainly help out in that regard…
