Over the last week or so, it feels like all we’ve talked about is Manchester United and their midfield woes. Well today, Old Trafford Faithful HQ is awash with transfer rumours once again linking the Reds to shiny new midfielders.
Today, it’s the turn of Norwich City’s ever-improving Todd Cantwell. The story comes from the Daily Mail, who state that United have added the emerging 21-year-old midfielder to their list of summer transfer targets.
The 20-time Premier League champions won’t be alone in the chase of Cantwell, mind, with both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also keen – which should tell you everything you need to know about his talent.
Cantwell has struck six goals already this term, making the £30m-rated player Norwich City’s second-highest goal-scorer behind Teemu Pukki.
Again, Cantwell fits into the mould of the player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking at – young and preferably English with his best years still ahead of him.
The potential stumbling block for the Red Devils could be the fact that Cantwell’s current deal doesn’t expire until 2022 so Norwich are under no pressure whatsoever to sell.
If they’re relegated, though, Cantwell won’t want to spend another season in the Championship so we could possibly expect some help on the player’s part.
