Manchester United have always been big believers when it comes to youth. It’s their mantra, their DNA, it’s what has made them so successful. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. That’s why I was surprised when the club started to chase marquee signings in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Well, credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing his utmost to return the Old Trafford outfit back to their roots. Youngsters like Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood were all pivotal members of the tour squad. They’ll get their first-team minutes from this point forward.

Daniel James, just 21, was also signed this summer. He scored on his United debut and the confidence will be sky-high. Hannibal Mejbri, aged 16, was also confirmed as a new Reds player just a couple of days ago. We covered that story here.

Today it seems as though United are back at it again. According to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-time Premier League champions have agreed to sign Isak Hansen-Aarøen from Tromso. The 14-year-old attacking midfielder will make the move to Manchester in August 2020 when he turns 16.

The move is part of a proposed long-term agreement between United and Tromso, with Aidan Barlow heading to the Norwegian outfit on a season-long loan.

As is always the case with young players, it’s tough to gauge their development, perhaps even moreso here given the fact that Hansen-Aarøen is just 14!

However, they’ll likely be little-to-no transfer fee involved so the risk-reward is well worth it. Maybe keep an eye out for this young lads’ name over the next half-decade…
