Manchester United need a big summer transfer window, particularly if Paul Pogba does switch Old Trafford for pastures new.
A name that has been popping up more often recently is Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez. We covered a story from the Star on Sunday, in which it was claimed United were ‘increasingly confident’ at signing the Spaniard in a club-record deal.
Now, AS have had their say on the situation. They confirm the fact that United are looking at signing the stat 25-year-old this summer, though apparently, they’re only willing to pay £70m as opposed to the previously quoted £135m.
Now in Spain, the clubs love to protect their assets by slapping huge release clauses on players – hence why United were expected to pay £135m for Saul. Honestly, that’s just not realistic and this £70m fee seems far more feasible.
Saul is a fantastic player to watch. He glides across the pitch, plays sumptuous passes and will chip in with goals, too. Make no mistake about it, if United can sell Pogba and acquire Saul, it’d be an excellent bit of business.
Atletico Madrid typically aren’t easy to negotiate with, though. Acquiring the Spaniard will be much easier said than done. You get the feeling that if United’s interest is genuine, this one will drag out all summer long…
