Man United battling to sign 21-year-old Belgian midfielder: report

Manchester United’s poor start to the campaign was in direct correlation with any real lack of squad investment over the summer.

Eventually, that cost Jose Mourinho his job, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come in and steadied the ship.

Now, Edward Woodward and company are clearly trying to right those wrongs by spending wisely in the transfer market, and another name has been thrown into the ring.

According to Niuewsblad, translated by The Metro, Manchester United are set to battle for the signature of AS Monaco midfielder, Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian, who is only 21, is also being eyed by FC Barcelona and Leicester City, and could be on his way out after the return of Leonardo Jardim following Thierry Henry’s sacking.

Midfield has been a real problem area for United over the last few years, but that was largely due to the fact that Paul Pogba was underperforming. All of the sudden, things look a whole lot brighter in that area of the park.

However, with the fee rumoured to be around £20million, that may be worth the gamble. Bringing him in as a squad player to replace Marouane Fellaini or a struggling Fred would be a wise decision, particularly as Tielemans could play with very little pressure due to the price-tag.
