Manchester United Football Club have a big week ahead. First up, Tottenham Hotspur visit Old Trafford in a game where Jose Mourinho will no doubt have revenge on the mind. Then, next weekend, the Red Devils head to The Etihad to take on Manchester City.
Anyway, before the clash against Spurs, it seems as though the United gaffer is considering replacing Victor Lindelof in the starting XI.
The story comes from The Metro, who state that Solskjaer is ‘considering dropping’ the 25-year-old Swede after his ‘alarming drop in form’.
After signing a new five-year deal in the summer, United fear that Lindelof has ‘rested on his laurels’ despite the fact that Solskjaer values the Ice Man’s calmness in possession.
With the emergence of Axel Tuanzebe, it’s by no means a given that Lindelof starts week-in-week-out these days. To me, the former Benfica man often looks nervous, and that rubs off on the rest of the defence which is a real worry.
Lindelof actually scored against Aston Villa this weekend, but again, the overriding feeling was that the Swede actually had an average game. I guess this is why you have a squad and perhaps Lindelof sitting out for a game or two will reignite that fire in his belly…
