Manchester United are seemingly closing in on a move for 22-year-old Russian midfielder, Aleksandr Golovin.
That’s according to The Sun, per The Metro, who reports that a £15million deal is in the offing, with Jose Mourinho seeing Golovin as a Juan Mata replacement.
The CSKA Moscow man is Russia’s main man going into their home World Cup, with Mourinho watching the midfielder during their warm-up game against Austria; when contrary media outlets suggested that he was there keeping an eye on Marko Arnautovic.
Personally, I feel Golovin would be an astute signing. Midfield is a real problem area for the Red Devils at the moment – and it’s an area that needs considerable work doing to it before the season gets underway.
Michael Carrick has hung up his boots and it looks like Marouane Fellaini is headed through the exit door. You simply cannot afford to lose two midfield players and not replace them.
The more balance-minded Golovin would certainly work well in a trio alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba. At 22, he’s young, and although it’d probably take him some time to adapt and adjust to Premier League football, this lad has the potential to be an absolute world-beater.
