Man United consider meeting defender’s £45m release clause in January: report

Manchester United Football Club have been absolutely awful defensively this season. In fact, it was only this weekend that the Red Devils turned their goal difference back into the plus column.

When you’re conceding goals at such an alarming rate, you’re always going to find yourself in trouble. Now, it looks as though Jose Mourinho is looking to right those wrongs from over the summer by bringing in a centre-back in January.

Apparently, the latest name to be linked with an Old Trafford move is Eder Militao, and according to The Times, per Sports Mole, the club would have to pay his £45million release clause if they’re to sign the central defender.

The Brazilian, who is only 20, recently signed a new long-term contract with FC Porto, keeping him with the club until 2023 unless the clause is activated.

His stock across European football is rising, and if he continues to develop and grow, while putting in top quality performances, the queue for his signature may get rather long – and pretty quickly, too…

I’ve said it for a while and my opinion hasn’t changed. I’d much prefer to see an experienced player come in rather than a young up-and-comer, this team needs experience rather than yet another potentially great footballer.
