Manchester United Football Club are considering making Napoli centre-half, Kalidou Koulibaly, the most expensive defender in history.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, who say that Jose Mourinho is weighing up a historic £100million January bid to secure the centre-back during the winter window.
Apparently, United have already had two bids rejected for the Senegal defender, who greatly impressed against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
It goes without saying that United need at least one new central defender. After failing to acquire one during the summer, the implications have been evident from game one in this season.
Our current crop of defenders just aren’t good enough and they need help. Koulibaly is amongst the best in the world, and there is no doubt that he’d single-handedly improve us.
£100million is a huge amount of money, but you look at Liverpool spending £75million on Virgil van Dijk, and that signing is already paying huge dividends for the Anfield club.
United simply have to follow suit and splash the cash to prove that they still have the ambition to help this club win trophies. I just have my doubts about this deal going through in January, as Napoli will be doing their utmost to keep ahold of such a key player.
