Man United could lose 23-year-old on a free transfer next summer: report

Manchester United are running the risk of potentially losing Luke Shaw on a free transfer next summer.

That’s according to The Times, who also add that the 23-year-old firmly believes he can win the starting job at Old Trafford this season; despite a real lack of game-time under Jose Mourinho’s leadership.

With twelve months left remaining on his current deal, United have a decision to make. They either sell him now for a minimal fee, or give him one last shot, but if he fails, there is a likelihood that the Red Devils will receive none of the £30million back that they paid to land him.

So far, Shaw’s time at United has been nothing but disappointing. It’s frustrating because he’s an immensely gifted young man, but for whatever reason, he just hasn’t shown it.

Sure, injuries definitely haven’t helped him, but time is still on his side. It feels like Shaw has been around for years already, yet he still has ten years football left in him.

Personally, I feel he’s already a way better option than Ashley Young, and this tour gives him a real chance to show exactly what he’s capable of. Hopefully, he grasps the opportunity with both hands and he starts against Leicester City on the opening day.
