Manchester United’s defence was amongst the worst in the Premier League this season. The Red Devils seemingly need to fill those rather porous holes this summer.
Antonio Valencia is leaving, who knows what has happened to Matteo Darmian, while Ashley Young continues to struggle. Right-back is arguably United’s biggest need going into a huge transfer window.
According to Marca, FC Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo, despite doing well when called upon, would like a more prominent role at the Camp Nou.
Furthermore, the Spanish media outlet say that Premier League teams have approached the Portugal international, with said clubs ready to meet Barcelona’s €35million (£30m) asking price.
To go one further than that, The Sun says that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the two teams keen on acquiring the 25-year-old Semedo.
Their claim is that the Reds are after a Valencia replacement, while Spurs are looking to move away from Kieran Trippier.
Semedo’s point was proven in the two legs against Manchester United in the Champions League. He started one game, while coming off the substitutes bench in the other – almost splitting the minutes with Sergi Roberto right down the middle.
If he chose an Old Trafford switch there’s no doubt he’d be the number one option in the right-back position, and his pace, energy and willingness to win could be a real asset – particularly at just £30million.
