Man United could still offer 22-year-old left-back new deal, despite indecision: report

Manchester United Football Club could still offer Luke Shaw a new contract at Old Trafford, despite Jose Mourinho being undecided about the left-back area within the team.

That’s according to the Manchester Evening News. The report says that United were in the market for a new full-back, but they’ve baulked at Juventus’ asking price for Alex Sandro.

Shaw, who has one-year left on his Red Devils deal, could potentially walk away from the club for free next year. With that in mind, United are clearly keen to tie the Englishman down to a new contract.

If he does put pen to paper, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that his position at the club is secure. Don’t be surprised to see Edward Woodward try to get Shaw to agree a new deal purely so he has some sell-on value.

Honestly, I’m in two minds about the whole situation. He’s obviously a talented lad, but injuries and a poor off-field attitude haven’t helped his case in the slightest. You feel that the next twelve months is absolutely pivotal for his career. If he does stay, I genuinely hope that he gets a real run in the side to show everyone just how good he can be on his day.
