Man United defender closing in on Everton move, paves way for new signing: report

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is closing in on a move to Everton, paving the way for the Red Devils to acquire a new central defender.

That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, with the report adding that Jose Mourinho’s efforts to sign a new centre-back have intensified.

It certainly looks as though United are in sell-before-you-buy mode, this summer, which is certainly worrying given the teams around us are all investing heavily, while the club, quite frankly, are trying to rid of players that other top-level sides just don’t want.

Rojo going to Everton certainly seems like a good fit. That’s probably his level, but no doubt he’d improve the Merseyside club if the switch does come to fruition. As a squad player, he’s not that bad – but he simply shouldn’t be starting every week if United harbour title aspirations.

The MEN name both Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld as potential transfer targets. It certainly seems as though Mourinho wants someone with Premier League experience, which is something that the latter would bring in abundance.

With less than two weeks until the deadline slams shut, Edward Woodward will have to act rapidly. It’s going to be intriguing to see whether he can pull any deal off in the short space of time.
