Man United defender George Tanner heads to Morecambe on season-long loan

Manchester United kicked off their campaign in unbelievable style, beating Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford – with several youngsters within the first-team squad ready to make an impression.

This club is built on giving youth a chance. Why should that change? It has worked so well for us in the past. United have also used the loan system excellently over the last few decades and the club have confirmed they’re putting that into practice once again.

Yesterday, United announced that the talented centre-back, George Tanner, has left Old Trafford on a season-long loan for the 19/20 season; he’ll head to Morecambe to gain ‘invaluable experience of first-team football’.

Tanner, 19, had two seasons with United’s U18s side, before making the jump up to U23 football last term. The ability is there, but there’s only so much you can do at youth level before you need to move up and test yourself against more experienced professionals.

Hopefully, Tanner can break into the first-team quickly and start racking up those all-important minutes. That will only stand him in good stead once he heads back to the Theatre of Dreams in twelve months time. Who knows, we may well see him on pre-season tour in the not too distant future…
