Manchester United defender Luke Shaw picked up an injury during the Red Devils’ 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.
The club have confirmed that the 23-year-old has withdrawn from the England squad, and it is unsure as to whether Shaw will be available for United’s next game; away at Chelsea in a fortnight.
He is now back at United’s AON Training Complex to undergo treatment, although the club haven’t specified exactly what the issue is; which always concerns me.
An argument can be made for Shaw as our best player to start this season. He has been simply sensational. Watching him rediscover form has been a real pleasure, while also adding another dimension to our attack.
Losing him for our trip to Stamford Bridge could potentially be huge. His ability to ease the pressure by bombing up the wing and offering another attacking outlet would be a massive blow – it’s something that, unfortunately, Ashley Young just doesn’t have the legs to do anymore.
Thankfully, he now gets a fortnight to try and recover in time for the clash, and hopefully, it’s nothing too serious as we don’t want Shaw back on the treatment table for any prolonged period. We need him now more than ever.
