Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves immense credit for the wonderful work he has done at Manchester United.
With that said, there is still one glaring hole within the squad; centre-back. Now, the Evening Standard
The report also directly quotes ex-United man Wesley Brown, and he names Raphael Varane as the ‘dream’ signing…
“The dream defender for United would be Rafael Varane,” he said per the Evening Standard. “He would cost a lot and it would need to be the right fit for United.
“It’s difficult to say as United have a lot of defenders to choose from, and Solskjaer will want players to justify their positions on the pitch.”
He certainly would cost a pretty penny, but what a player Varane is. It’s scary to think that the Frenchman is only 25 as it feels like he has been around for ages.
Honestly, though, I just don’t see Real Madrid letting him leave. Why would they? He’s a world-class centre-half who’s only improving and it’s not like they need the money…
If Varane is truly available then United should break the bank to sign him, but I’d much prefer them to chase a realistic target rather than going after someone who’ll likely remain where he is. I think a Kalidou Koulibaly or a Toby Alderweireld is probably the better option all things considered.
With that said, it’s great to see that United know where they need to invest in, and hopefully, this summer, we’ll see some top players added as we look to build on what has been a promising start under Solskjaer.
