Manchester United have made enquiries about signing RSC Anderlecht star, Leander Dendoncker this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News. However, they aren’t expected to sign the 22-year-old this summer. That’s what sources close to the player are saying anyway.
Apparently, Jose Mourinho was impressed with Dendoncker when the sides met in the Europa League last term, and at 22, he’d bring some youthful exuberance to the team; as well as strength in depth in a key area of the field.
The aforementioned report claims the Red Devils have scouted him at length, and Mourinho even sought him out and said a few words after the game at Old Trafford in April.
Anderlecht value their star man at somewhere in between £22m-£31m, which is a fair bit of money for someone who hasn’t played in the English game before.
Dendoncker stands at 6’2 tall, which tells you all you need to know about why Mourinho is interested in signing him. Our manager loves big, powerful midfielders, and the midfielder certainly fits that bill down to a tee.
What splits him apart from the likes of Nemanja Matic and Marouane Fellaini is his willingness to get forward and burst into opposing penalty areas. That was evident in the first leg of United’s Europa League game when he scored their equaliser on the night.
