As anyone who isn’t living under a rock will know, Manchester United have been constantly linked with a move to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka this season.
However, yesterday in an exclusive, The Sun has thrown a new name into the ring in regards to United’s right-back targets.
In their report, it is being claimed that United ‘want’ PSV Eindhoven’s Denzel Dumfries as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘steps up’ his bid to acquire a new right-sided defender.
Apparently, United are pushing for a move to sign the man who featured in Holland’s team that beat England in the UEFA Nations League semi-final just last week.
The report states that 23-year-old Dumfries is available for around £25million, while also being in the ‘rising star’ category that Solskjaer is trying to build this United team around.
He’s cheaper than the aforementioned Wan-Bissaka, while also being more forward-thinking than the Englishman. United also like Dumfries because he’s younger than Thomas Meunier – another player rumoured to be liked by Solskjaer.
If I’m being honest, I wasn’t impressed with him in the game against England. Defensively he didn’t look good whatsoever, and I’m not sure it’s wise adding another poor defender into a team that shipped goals for fun last term.
Personally, I feel United should pay whatever it takes to get Wan-Bissaka here, failing that, Thomas Meunier for a few seasons wouldn’t be a bad idea – particularly if Ethan Laird continues to develop.
