Manchester United are monitoring Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, with the Red Devils potentially eyeing a surprise summer swoop for the attacker.
That’s according to The Sun, per the Daily Star. The report adds that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the driving runs the 22-year-old makes from midfield; with the self-proclaimed Special One seeing him as a long-term prospect.
Honestly, this one would be rather underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, Grealish is a fantastic player with bags of potential. I just don’t think he’s what United need right now. Mourinho needs the ready-made product rather than a youngster who he’ll have to nurture and develop.
Grealish looked like the bright spark during the Championship play-off final against Fulham, but unfortunately for Steve Bruce’s side, they just couldn’t find the breakthrough. Perhaps what he needs is another season of regular first-team football. If he tears up the league for another twelve months, then things could change.
I just don’t see the sense in signing yet another attacking-midfielder at this point. There are far more pressing matters – including bringing in a world-class centre-back, left-back and potentially right-winger. There are certainly holes aplenty to fill…
