Manchester United returned to winning ways at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, with the Red Devils beating AFC Bournemouth 1-0.
Jose Mourinho will have been pleased with the result, although in terms of overall performance, we certainly need to improve if we harbour any hopes when it comes to catching Manchester City.
The self-proclaimed Special One took the decision to change up the team somewhat, with youngster Scott McTominay starting. There was also an opportunity for Luke Shaw to play, with the 22-year-old grasping the chance with both hands.
Offensively, Shaw offered himself as an overlapping outlet more often than not, stretching Bournemouth’s defence due to sheer work rate. When being attacked, the Englishman was great positionally and didn’t give his marker any time on the ball whatsoever. It was a much-improved outing from the former Southampton man, and Mourinho would have been thrilled.
Now it’s time to reward Shaw’s good form with a run in the side. With the hectic winter period in full flow, he will be named in the starting line-up more often which is great. We probably won’t see him at the weekend, but perhaps when we take on Bristol City in the EFL Cup next week.
As you’d imagine, Twitter was full of happy reds expressing their delight at Shaw’s performance. Check out the best replies below.
Fair play to Luke Shaw. He hasn’t given up, kept working hard and took his opportunities. Gives us an excellent option at left-back. Particularly in home games where opponents will sit back. #DifferenceMaker

This is easily the best Luke Shaw has looked since his broken leg. Looks confident, fit, and he's added important width which Anthony Martial has benefited from already tonight. Great to see.
