Manchester United are in dire straits at the moment. Most of the problems are there own making and it’s going to take a while to fix them all.
One position they have gotten right over the last half-decade is the goalkeeper spot. However, you do feel as if David de Gea’s time at Old Trafford is winding down. Thankfully, it seems as though the Reds already have a ready-made replacement within their ranks; Dean Henderson.
The budding shot-stopper has enjoyed two excellent loan seasons with Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United respectively. Both teams were promoted from League One and the Championship in back-to-back years.
After some encouraging comments from Henderson just a couple of days ago, his stock continues to rise following an excellent penalty save against France U21s at the European Championships.
United’s 22-year-old actually faced two penalties in the game and none were scored. Sure, the second may have hit the post but it just shows how intimidating Henderson is in between the sticks.
It feels as though every single time I watch him play, Henderson is just getting better and better. The goalie became a real cult hero for Sheffield United last season and it does seem as if he’s ready to play for the Red Devils.
As you’d imagine, the fans were buzzing about Henderson’s valiant performance in a losing effort last night, and they took to social media in their droves to praise the youngster. We’ve compiled some of the best tweets below (starting with his excellent penalty stop).
