Manchester United have now agreed a fee for Harry Maguire, thought to be around the £80million mark. We covered said report from Sky Sports News earlier today.
The last time the Red Devils had a reliable centre-back pairing was probably five years ago when Rio Ferdinand was still around. Finally, it feels like this club has drawn up a plan and worked out what direction they want to head in.
Sure, Maguire is expensive and yes, it would have been nice to conclude this deal earlier, but the owners have delivered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his man (pending medical and the agreement of personal terms).
It’s an exciting deal for the fans, with many taking to Twitter to share their delights at United agreeing a fee for the 26-year-old centre-half known as ‘Slabhead’…
Now it’s about whether the club can get the signing done quickly enough to give Maguire a chance at featuring against Chelsea on the Premier League’s opening day.
It would have been helpful to see him feature in a couple of pre-season games first, but that’s a decision for the manager to make. We’re just all glad that the move is now progressing in the right direction and touch wood, everything should be sealed over the next few days.
