After some major doubts about whether Odion Ighalo will stay at Old Trafford beyond his May 31st loan deadline, the Red Devils eventually got a deal done right at the last minute.
The Nigerian striker had scored four goals in three United starts, though COVID-19 halted play and it looked like he’d never pull on the Red jersey again.
Thankfully, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed to broker a deal in which Ighalo will remain in Manchester until January 2021. Not only will he get to play out this season, he’ll also have a major hand in the next, too!
My initial impression is that Ighalo deserves this opportunity. It would have been totally cruel to let him leave without getting a proper send-off from the fans and now, at the very least, he’ll get that.
It also gives Solskjaer some direction going into a crucial transfer window. Now, he doesn’t have to worry about adding a striker. Instead, the priority can be midfield and right-wing. Possibly a defender, too.
Thankfully, the overwhelming majority are now grateful to having Ighalo stay at the Theatre of Dreams. Don’t forget that it wasn’t too long ago we were all feeling pretty underwhelmed at his arrival. It just goes to show fans can change their minds (and opinions) pretty quickly. Over to you, Paul Pogba…
