Manchester United are the favourites to sign Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam.
That’s according to Il Martino, translated wonderfully by Sport Witness. They say that the asking price for the Algerian-born-Frenchman has dropped to just £31million over the last few months.
Apparently, the Red Devils have followed Ghoulam with ‘great interest’ over time, and it would make sense to bring in a new left-sided defender this summer.
Ashley Young is almost 33 and it looks as though his best days are behind him, whereas nobody knows exactly what’s going to happen with Luke Shaw – despite his immense talents.
Ghoulam has emerged as an elite full-back this season, flourishing in an excellent Napoli side that left Juventus sweating in the Serie A title race. At 27, he’d provide an excellent blend of youth and experience, and no doubt this is of great interest to manager Jose Mourinho.
In the modern-day game, signing a top-level defender for £31million simply has to be considered a bargain. Ghoulam would give the manager one less problem to worry about from week-to-week, as he’d have that reliable left-back who can play in pretty much every single game.
Personally, I’d love this deal to happen. Heck, he can’t do any worse than Matteo Darmian or Daley Blind…
