Manchester United have been given a huge injury boost, with Antonio Valencia set to return to the team following a hamstring problem, reported by The Telegraph.
The man from Ecuador suffered the injury around three weeks ago, just before Manchester United’s hectic Christmas schedule got underway.
Valencia travelled to Dubai with the squad to undergo some warm-weather training before Jose Mourinho’s men face off against the manager-less Potters, and now the veteran right-back will apparently start in that game – strengthening United’s hand significantly.
I’m not sure that there is a better right-back in the country than Valencia right now. He’s quick, a hard-worker on both sides of the football, a great crosser and he always has a goal in him. What’s not to love?
One thing is for certain, Valencia coming back gives us a better chance at winning. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind Victor Lindelof playing out there, but he’s far better when he starts in the centre, and hopefully, we’ll see more of the Swede in that area of the field now.
My only concern is that it probably means Luke Shaw will move back to the bench. Ashley Young’s suspension is now over so he’ll come back into the team at left-back, with Valencia starting as the right-back.
