This summer for Manchester United is huge. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to be backed, and heavily.
Amongst an extremely long list of needs has to be a new centre-half, now, arguably the best of the lot could have fallen directly into their laps. The report comes from Spain, namely Mundo Deportivo (translated by The Metro), who say that Matthijs de Ligt’s agent wants his client to move to Old Trafford this summer – rather than heading to FC Barcelona.
Obviously, the man in the middle of all this is Mino Raiola. A superagent who always gets the best possible financial deal for his clients. This is the same Raiola who has a strong relationship with United, which could play into our hands, although Juventus and Bayern Munich are two other options according to the aforementioned report.
De Ligt would be a dream. It’s shocking to believe that the Dutchman is still only 19 and getting better with each passing game. The young man has an unbelievable level of talent and there’s no doubt that he’s already amongst the best centre-halves in the world.
If this is a real possibility (and I’ll be surprised if that’s the case), United should break the bank for this young man. De Ligt could shepherd in a new era at Old Trafford wonderfully well, he’s the sort of player you build around and don’t think twice.
