Manchester United have held informal talks with the representatives of Willian, before the summer transfer window opens.
That’s what the Manchester Evening News says, with the Red Devils trying to gauge the likelihood of getting a deal for the 29-year-old done.
Willian has worked with Jose Mourinho before, with the pair enjoying Premier League success at Chelsea just a few years ago. In my opinion, it comes as no surprise to see United linked with a move for the former Shakhtar Donetsk right-winger.
The self-proclaimed Special One absolutely loves experienced footballers, hence why he moved for Nemanja Matic last season. It seems as though the United gaffer is trying to repeat the feat, but I’m sure Chelsea will be doing all they can to ensure Willian remains at Stamford Bridge.
Personally, I get the feeling that this one has legs. It was only yesterday when ESPN stated United were ready to make their move for Willian, and this report from the MEN certainly backs that up.
United are so top-heavy on the left-hand side, with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez all fighting it out for one position. Whereas on the left, you only really have Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard; both of whom are far better through the middle. I’d love to see Willian at United, but it’d likely mean the end of Martial’s time at United, which obviously, I wouldn’t be fond of. Let’s just see what happens…
