Manchester United are in need of a huge summer transfer window. Perhaps the most pressing need is the signing of a new central midfielder.
After all, both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera left Old Trafford over the last six months, neither are yet to be replaced. It’s down to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to identify and acquire at least one midfield target this summer – and the latest name to be thrown into the ring is Youri Tielemans.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar second half to the season with Leicester City while on loan, and apparently, United and Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with the player’s agent – although he’s not their first-choice pick…
“There have been talks, the agent’s had talks with Spurs and Man United about him.
“Not sure he’s the first choice at both clubs either. Monaco, they want to sell him and get rid of him.”
For me, Tielemans should be a high priority for United. He’s young, hungry and always improving. The fact that we’ve seen him enjoy success in England already is a huge plus, while the midfielder also has something to prove to AS Monaco – who want to let him go.
I look at Tielemans as the perfect replacement for Herrera, in fact, I’d say he’s probably more talented than the Basque who has just departed from Old Trafford on a free transfer and I don’t think the Belgium international would be all-too expensive, either.
Beating out competition from Tottenham could prove to be tough, mind, as they can offer Champions League football next term while United are only in the Europa League. Hopefully, the pull of playing for the biggest club in the country is too good to say no to.
