Manchester United are ‘hopeful’ that Marouane Fellaini will not need surgery on his latest injury setback, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The star Belgian made a return from injury last month, but has since been sidelined again with a similar problem, as the club are yet to figure out exactly what the issue is.
Jose Mourinho will be missing the 6’5 Belgian who causes havoc in the midfield, perhaps even more so due to the sensational form that the former Everton man was in before he suffered the knock while playing for his country.
Obviously, things are much harder without a key member of the squad, particularly over the busy Christmas period where rotation is absolutely essential to avoid an even bigger pile-up on the injury front.
On top of that, you also have to consider that Fellaini is yet to put pen to paper on a new Manchester United contract for whatever reason. That has to be a concern to the board and the club, as they’ll risk losing him on a free transfer if they don’t tie him down to a new deal before the new year rolls in.
