Man United in contract talks with 33-year-old, one-year extension on the cards: report

Manchester United Football Club have several players with winding down contracts. Behind the scenes, no doubt Jose Mourinho is doing his best to tie as many down to new deals as possible.

Now, according to the BBC, one player that the Red Devils are looking at extending is Ashley Young. The make-shift full-back has been doing a decent job at right-back in Antonio Valencia’s absence, but it’s clear for all to see that he isn’t the future at that position.

Apparently, Young is keen on staying at Old Trafford, which is a good sign, although talks are in an early stage. I’d be surprised if the club didn’t agree to keep him on for an extra year, purely due to his versatility.

If he does stick around, though, he should be nothing more than a squad player. I find it criminal that Mourinho is still utilising him as a starter week-in-week-out. As we witnessed against City at the weekend, Young was exposed by both Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane on several occasions…

The crazy thing is that it’s not even his fault. I don’t blame him for any of it, but it just highlights what a mess United are in at the moment.
