Manchester United’s search for a new midfielder continues, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scouring all corners of the globe.
A familiar name has reappeared over the last 24 hours or so; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Cast your mind back just twelve months ago when a Jose Mourinho-led Red Devils were keen on acquiring the Lazio man, unfortunately to no avail…
Well, Milinkovic-Savic’s name is back in the media. The story comes from Sky Sports Italia, with their British counterpart Sky Sports News bringing the story over to these shores.
Apparently, United are ‘interested’ in signing the 24-year-old, while Lazio’s president, Claudio Lotito, has set a £90million asking price that he doesn’t intend to lower.
The money is there for United. That became evident when the 20-time Premier League champions offered £70million to Leicester City for Harry Maguire. Centre-back is just as big a need as central midfield and in an ideal world, the Reds would sign one of each…
Personally, I haven’t watched much Milinkovic-Savic aside from the World Cup last summer. It’s fair to say he wasn’t all-too-impressive during that tournament, but the talent is there.
Let’s not forget that United aren’t only lacking in midfield quality, but quantity too. The Reds are yet to replace Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. With Paul Pogba’s future also up in the air, there’s a serious problem that needs fixing before the Premier League opener against Chelsea next month.
