Manchester United haven’t addressed their right-back problem since the Gary Neville days. Rafael did do well, while the likes of Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia just haven’t been good enough.
It seems as though it’s an area which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to invest in, however… The latest right-back to be linked with an Old Trafford move is Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier.
It comes from the usually reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, who say that United are ‘interested’ in the 28-year-old, while Serie A side Napoli have also enquired about potentially signing the Spurs man.
During the World Cup almost twelve months ago now, Trippier was magnificent. Defensively he was superb while going forward the Bury-born-defender was a constant threat. We all saw just how deadly he is from the set-piece situation, too.
Since then, though, things have massively fallen off for Trippier. Whether that’s because he just needs a change-in-scenery or simply put he’s not good enough we’re not sure. He would be an upgrade on what we have at the moment however, and if United could land him on a relatively cheap deal then I think this one is more than worth a punt…
