There have been transfer rumours aplenty for Manchester United fans to discuss during this window, and today, a new name has been thrown into the ring.
It comes from talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein, who was speaking on the popular late-night show, the Sports Bar. The United fan and regular MUTV host claimed that he has a reliable source who has told him the Red Devils are interested in signing Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
Goldstein says that his source is correct roughly 75% of the time, while United are set to offer £70million as a ‘first offer’ for the 30-year-old…
Aubameyang has just under two years left on his deal and this does have a Robin van Persie-esque feel to it – although this time I’d be massively surprised if The Gunners would sell to United.
You also have to factor in Aubameyang’s thoughts and feelings. Would he really take a sideward step to Old Trafford at this stage in his career? And would United really spend £70million on a player they’re likely to get two good years out of?
I seriously have my doubts about this one. Sure, United will need another forward if Romelu Lukaku leaves the club, but my guess would be that the Reds move for a player who’d be willing to play back-up to Marcus Rashford.
