Manchester United aren’t short of a few bob, and money is certainly going to have to be spent this summer if the Red Devils are to challenge for major honours.
Jose Mourinho didn’t invest wisely, that’s an area in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must do better than his predecessor.
As we gear up for what is going to be a massive transfer window, names are being linked with an Old Trafford move left, right and centre. The latest to be mentioned is that of Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
That’s according to ESPN, who state that United have joined Manchester City in pursuit of the classy Spaniard, who has a £128m (€150m) release clause in his current contract.
Apparently, United have been ‘closely monitoring’ Saul’s situation, while remaining aware that Atletico aren’t willing to let him leave unless the aforementioned release clause is met. If anyone can afford it, United can…
There’s no doubt that Saul would be a big upgrade on what United currently have in that regard. If Juan Mata or Ander Herrera do decide to leave, Saul would be the ideal replacement for either.
He wouldn’t come cheap, (obviously) but United must be confident as ESPN add that City are already looking at Rodri Hernandez as an alternative should Saul choose red over blue.
I still have my doubts, though, the last two City transfer ‘targets’ that United hijacked moves for certainly haven’t worked out… Cheers for Alexis Sanchez and Fred, Pep…
