Manchester United have had a relatively quiet transfer window so far, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remaining inactive so far.
However, according to the Daily Mirror, that could be about to change. They say that United are keen on making a £25million move for Steven Bergwijn.
Apparently, scouts have been viewing the forward this season, with the club now ready to test PSV Eindhoven’s resolve with a January bid for the forward.
The 21-year-old only recently penned a deal keeping him with the Eredivisie club until 2022, so he certainly won’t come cheap. However, if you recall, that’s how Memphis Depay’s move to Manchester United came around, so a deal isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
As is always the case when signing young players from different countries, you have to harbour reservations. Who knows how Bergwijn will play in the Premier League? Who knows how long it will take him to adapt, if he ever will?
It’s a gamble, and at this time I’m not sure it’s one worth taking. United desperately need a right-winger, though, that much is obvious. Personally, I doubt PSV will let Bergwijn leave in January, and perhaps when the summer rolls around, they’ll be better options for United to explore.
