Over the summer, Manchester United chose to let Romelu Lukaku leave and head to Inter Milan. That left the Red Devils a forward light, though Mason Greenwood has stepped up to the plate.

An injury to Marcus Rashford forced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into further action, with the Baby Faced Assassin sanctioning a move for Odion Ighalo on a short-term loan deal. However, as brilliant as the Nigerian has been, I’m not sure he’s the long-term solution.

Enter Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. According to The Sun, Arsenal are ‘resigned’ to losing their star striker from Gabon. The player is set to enter the final year of his contract, ala Robin van Persie. We all know how that story ended.

Well, United, amongst others, are keeping tabs on the prolific 30-year-old, with the Reds feeling Aubameyang could be available for just £35million. Obviously, Arsenal don’t want to lose their prized asset for free so their hand may well be forced into selling.

Aubameyang is quick, versatile and most importantly, a goal-getter. Adding in his experience could prove vital as he’d be an excellent teacher and role model for the younger forwards in the locker room.

Strengthening yourself, while weakening a direct rival, definitely feels like a smart business decision. Aubameyang is proven in the English game and what’s there not to like about him as a player? Plus, it’s always fun to upset Arsenal Football Club…
